Durham University Mooting Society: legal discourse, mock trials, competetive debating.
Hello! My name is Victoria Brown and I am this year's President. I'm a 3rd year Law student from Collingwood College. In my role I am responsible for ensuring the effective running of the society. I arrange all speakers and organise the programme of workshops. In maintaining regular contact with legal professionals and the local community, I aim to further enhance the reputation of the Mooting Society and provide even more opportunities for members. Moreover, I support the other exec members in their positions. Our society has had many tremendous successes in the past year and I am very enthusiastic about the coming months. If you do have any queries or suggestions then please feel free to contact me at victoria.brown@dur.ac.uk. I look forward to meeting you all and to the prosperous year ahead.
My name is Alex, a 3rd year at Cuths. My role as Secretary is to liaise with the whole Exec so that everyone knows what is going on and ensure that you, the membership, know about it. I generally help out any of the exec that need some help and make sure that everything runs smoothly. If you have any questions just drop me an email at mooting.society@durham.ac.uk!
Hi! I’m a 3rd year law student from Chad’s, responsible for all the society finances and generally ensuring that we're solvent and have enough money to run socials and events. New members pay their membership dues to me. If there are any quibbles/queries with membership dues don't hesitate to contact me at w.t.toh@dur.ac.uk :)
I’m a 3rd year from Grey, responsible for external competitions where our mooters compete (and shine) nationally. Last year we took part in the Oxford University Press, Beachcroft LLP, Incorporated Council of Law Reporting and Essex Court Mooting competitions. We did fantastically and in the OUP in particular getting through to the semi-finals. This year we hope to build on that success and enter teams to as many competitions as possible. My job is to act as a link between the external competition organisers and our teams, ensuring they all know what is going on and that when we have Home moots everything runs smoothly. So if you want to represent our society, if you want to compete externally or even if you're just interested in coming along and supporting our mooters in action just drop me an email on weijing.wu@durham.ac.uk or the general mooting account.
I’m a 3rd year at Hatfield. My role is organising internal competitions and ensuring all members get a chance to practice advocacy. Each year we have workshops in the first term so that out newest members can compete in our Novice Cup at the end of Michealmas term. Then in Epiphany term comes the Palatinate Cup for our advanced debaters or those novices who want to take the next step and want a greater challenge. I'll be organising dates, rooms and judges so that it all runs like clockwork. I look forward to seeing you compete throughout the year!
My name is Josephine Kaiding, and I am a second year lawyer from Hatfield. In my role as the Society's Sponsorship and Liaison Officer, I will do my best to raise lots of money as well as being responsible for collaboration with the Law Department, chambers, firms and other people our Society could benefit from. Please, feel free to contact me regarding any matters at josephine.kaiding@durham.ac.uk. I am looking forward to meet you at the beginning of Michaelmas term - I am certain we have a most enjoyable year ahead!
Hello, I’m Ashanti-Jade Walton and I'm a second year lawyer from Hatfield. I am Social Secretary for this year, so I arrange the events that will enable you to meet fellow budding barristers outside of the academic environment. I am eager to arrange some enjoyable events for you. If you have any ideas or enquires don’t hesitate to get in touch – a.j.v.walton@durham.ac.uk. I am excited to meet you all soon.
